Nokia Situations-Smart Profile Manager

clip_image002A few days back Nokia has released Nokia Situations that will enable the Nokia handset users to customize their handsets in a situation-specific manner. That is, users will be able to set the way in which they want their handset profile to act in specific situations. Nokia Situations automatically senses the situation you are in based on time, day, location and available network cells or acts according to the predefined situation. It then switches to the set profile that meets that criterion. The application silently runs in the background, senses the situation you are in and then changes the profile accordingly.

The application is one of the best Apps we have used so far which uses all the sensors in a phone’s Hardware including GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Network cells and what not packed with every permission to access phone’s hardware. You can also name your very own situation.

HTC Unveils HTC Desire HDTM and HTC Desire ZTM with NEW HTC sense and HTCSENSE.COM

While everybody,I mean developers/bloggers/tech people are busy with #NokiaWorld2010,

HTC unveils its latest  devices HTC DESIRE HD and HTC DESIRE Z with HTCSENSE.COM.

HTC Sense integrates a variety of multimedia and location-based enhancements and introduces HTCSense.com, a series of new connected HTC services.

LONDON, UK – September 15, 2010 – HTC Corporation, a global designer of smartphones, today unveiled a new HTC Sense experience with the new HTC Desire HDTM and HTC Desire ZTM Android-based smartphones.  The new HTC Sense experience continues HTC’s strong focus on the customer, placing people at the center by simply making its phones work in a more personal and natural way. HTC Sense introduces a number of key innovations including a series of connected services called HTCSense.com that enhance people’s mobile experience on HTC phones.

“We’re excited to be taking the HTC Sense experience beyond the phone to a whole new level with a series of connected HTC services we call HTCSense.com,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “Our customers will value the holistic approach we’re taking to enhance their mobile experience. This customer-first philosophy has resonated with people buying HTC phones and this drives us to continue introducing new innovative smartphones like the HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z.”

"As a key Android partner and smartphone brand, HTC continues to bring new innovation to the platform,"  said Andy Rubin, VP engineering at Google.  "Android is about choice and the new HTC smartphones continue to provide customers with powerful choices and flexibility."

HTC Sense

The new HTC Sense experience offers a variety of enhancements that improve how people capture, create, share and access multimedia content. With a newly created camera experience, people can record HD videos or capture and edit images with a variety of fun camera effects. With HTC Locations, a new differentiated online mapping experience, people have instant, on-demand mapping without download delays or incurring mobile roaming charges.

HTC Sense also includes a new integrated online e-reading experience utilizing a new e-book store powered by Koboä and a new, mobile-optimized e-reader that includes the ability to highlight, annotate and quickly search for definitions or translate unfamiliar terms.

With the new HTCSense.com service, people can simply manage their mobile phone experience from their HTC phone or personal computer. For example, people can easily locate a missing phone by triggering the handset to ring loudly, even if it is set to silent, or to flag its location on a map. If the phone’s been lost or stolen, users can remotely lock the phone, forward calls and texts to another phone, send a message to the phone to arrange its return or even remotely wipe all personal data from it.  HTCSense.com makes it easy to setup a new HTC phone or access archived mobile content such as contacts, text messages and call history from a PC browser. People can also customize their phones with exclusive HTC content like wallpapers, HTC scenes, sounds or plug-ins.

HTC Desire HD

HTC Desire HD showcases outstanding multimedia content with its bright 4.3” LCD display and Dolby Mobile and SRS virtual sound and is the first to be powered by the new 1GHz Qualcomm 8255 Snapdragon processor. The HTC Desire HD enables 720p HD video recording and includes an 8-megapixel camera with dual-flash.  Building on the unibody heritage of the HTC Legend, the HTC Desire HD is sculpted from a block of solid aluminum and exudes the air of quality and strength that HTC has come to be known for. It also includes the new HTC Fast Boot that enables people to quickly make a call or check emails by shortening the time taken to complete the power-up sequence.

HTC Desire Z

For people constantly on the go, HTC Desire Z makes it quick and easy to stay connected with friends on Facebook and Twitter or with colleagues and customers at work. HTC Desire Z features a unique ‘pop hinge’ that opens to reveal a QWERTY keyboard for fast, convenient typing. HTC Desire Z’s keyboard also includes a variety of keyboard shortcuts and two customizable keys for providing instant access to common functions without the need to open menus.  HTC Desire Z also includes 720p HD video recording and a 5-megapixel camera with automatic flash. It is the first phone to utilize the new 800MHz Qualcomm 7230 processor for improved performance and battery life and also includes HTC Fast Boot.

The new HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z will be broadly available through mobile operators and retailers across major European and Asian markets from October 2010 with the HTC Desire Z shipping in North America later this year.

    Gas Balls–Be Careful N900 users!

Well another Entertainment packed Little App from Nokia for Nokia Maemo On N900.
    Name:GAS BALLS
A couple of days back another free App popped in the OVI store exclusively for Nokia N900 Maemo platform. There is Nothing to be careful as mentioned in the Title, but this cute app produces the same Effect as the name suggests.Surprisingly this App is just 85Kb in size.

Here are some of the screen shots of this App in working:
First Experience :This app is one of the light weight Apps I ever used with more functionality using the acceleration sensors and touch sensing capabilities. It’s available freely in the ovi store.

Working:After the installation completes an icon appears in the application menu, once the app is opened the entire home screen really turns into a dangerous black screen where the tiny balls starts responding to the movement of the device and also reacts to the touch .When kept constant(without moving the device) for a second these balls produce effect as of a releasing gas with different colors from them. This is really fantastic and also creates the effect of live wallpapers.
After enough playing with the device I am afraid that I have to set all my wallpapers back   (Home screen) which I consider as a lot of pain. But thanks to this little app which saved me.when you tap on the screen two options appear on the corner right top as shown in pic.The tool mark provides options while the cross mark decently closes the app and brings back the home screen with our native wallpapers.
Thanks for this cute app from Nokia/Ovi.
Make your desktop and photos alive with balls and colored gas! Animation reacts both to touches and device position in real time.
Did you download this app?If not head over to Ovi store and get your free copy for N900.

While Others Have fun! Even the Physically challenged can Do !

This is about an App Idea that i think would be a valuable app for the Indian User:

Yes,i wonder often when the smart phones have voice software to recognize everything and do the required work for the user without touching even a single button why not a net-book?
E.g.:vlingo a software on mobile integrates totally into the mobile and functions as if a new voice OS is installed and the work is done smoothly.
Then why not a software on netbook do that for us?
Let this be named as I-FRIEND!
Imagine a netbook which can be switched on using commands and switched off using the commands .
It totally depends on our voice.
"We can even communicate with the system to text for us" after giving a voice training to it.
Imagine a netbook packed with full of software which enables :
1)Us to lay on bed eating some stuff and if we just say browse internet and open Google it automatically does for us! or even say search for Intel on the web.
2)If we are just doing any household work and say switch on the system and mail to Intel, it automatically opens everything(Default mail application) and asks what's the subject and message! how cool it will be?
3)Not only these,But there will also be an I-friend inside it which helps us in sorting issues related to the communication with the system.
This friend comes first when ever the system is switched on , greet us and asks what have to be done.
Infact this is the one who does most of our work, reminds us of any remainders,
checks our voice daily, incase of change and ask us "Boss your voice is changed is there any problem".
It records our daily things and gets habituated to those.
Like if we have a habit of reading  mails daily at 8am , it automatically does it for us and alarms at the time by switching on to the mail interface.
For all this have to be done the software should be integrated into the Mail service like Thunderbird or any other.
Yes even the entire office suite applications should come in the same way after integration.
In-fact all the needy applications should be installed by default so that there will be no need for any user to install the required app.
so,Intel have to open an APPLICATION platform where we can download especially these voice based applications.
As the whole operations depend on our voice there is no need of threat to the data, as there is our i-friend who takes care of it.
Imagine a situation where our photos are in many sub-folders and you can't search for them, by just a command of us our i-friend gets them opened.
For this thing to be done the system gets everything organized in the background by observing our daily works.
just say play "I'm chill track" it does for us and also as per the profile and time it warns or suggests the volume too..
    How cool it is.
Let me introduce s special feature "profiles" for netbooks too which have more advanced functions than of mobiles.
So all this to happen the system should be equipped with sensors like
1)Ambient light sensor: For adjusting the display brightness
2)Proximity sensor: to switch off display and let the system be working when folded
3)Magnetic compass:To let us inform us the directions
4)Accelerometer sensor:To observe the movements of the netbook and safeguard the HDD.
5)It should even include a GPS to track us.
and what not all the sensors which are useful in bringing life to our i-friend.
It also should have voice call and texting features included by inserting a Sim card slot.
Even gaming becomes more fun with these sensors.
This Netbook is not any high end multimedia device but the one which supports all the operations on voice.
This may add fun to may of users but

" THIS IS A GREAT GIFT TO THE PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED PEOPLE WHO have no hands/fingers but are intelligent enough to work with computers"

Let us consider the example of our scientist Stephen Hawkins, though he is intelligent enough, he cannot work with hands.
While being more in a fun manner this also serves the other purposes too.
    A Multi-Netbook!
Look forward for INTEL to develop such a kind of innovative software and platforms in future!

Check out the Intel® Atom™ Developer Program, if you are looking for an opportunity to build and monetize your applications. You can sell through Intel’s storefront – Intel AppUp Center. Now pay only for the websites you love surfing with Tata DOCOMO’s ‘PAY PER SITE’
Taking off from its revolutionary ‘Pay for what You Use’ concept, Tata DOCOMO has introduced yet another path-breaking offer, ‘Pay Per Site’. The revolutionary offer brings in a more simplified and unique “Pay-for-what-you-use” Internet-browsing model and breaks through the clutter in its category.

At the time of its launch in June last year launch, TATA DOCOMO had questioned the paradigm of Pay Per Minute and introduced Pay Per Second. With ‘Pay Per Site’, the story only gets better for the consumer. “Pay only for what you use and hence fairness continues to be an important differentiator for the brand,” said Mr Gurinder Singh Sandhu, Tata DOCOMO’s Head of Marketing.

Those who only browse two or three sites regularly are now free from monthly rentals and packs. Pay Per Site offers two combination packs—those only interested in single websites need to pay Rs 10 per site, whereas those with multiple site browsing needs can opt for a combo pack at just Rs 25 per month. Customers will have a bundle of options within various categories of social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In, Orkut), mail options (Gmail, Yahoo, Rediff) and chat messengers (GTalk, Yahoo! Messenger, Nimbuzz).

There are 2 different genres under which each service is categorized- Social Networking Site and Emailing and Instant Messaging. Each site under this genre is priced at Rs. 10/- bundled with 200 MB free data usage valid for 30 days, post which customers will be charged at 1p/kb. There are also 2 Combo options – SNS Combo Pack and Emailing Combo Pack and each Combo Pack is priced at Rs. 25/- bundled with 500 MB free data usage post which the customers will be charged 1p/kb.

To activate the services, customers can Dial *141# OR simply send an SMS with the keyword “MY SITE’ to 141 and following further instructions OR visit Tata DOCOMO website -http://bit.ly/SubscribetoPayPerSite

So if you are not a heavy internet user and regularly visit only a few websites daily, then shed those fat monthly packs and DO the New with Pay Per Site!

INDIA'S first of it's kind SPEED TEST -TATADOCOMO,BSNL wins!

I Think this is INDIA'S first of it's kind speed test i'm posting on this blog!

Yes, generally speed tests are conducted By using the site  mobilespeedtest.com to test the speeds on a mobile.
But the tests conducted and performed by using  mobilespeedtest.com are just a seconds work with the testing process!
Then whats the truth in the speed result when a network is able to give a speed of 130Kbps for just a second and again drop back to a lower speed limits?
Imagine a network with a constant speed of 60Kbps through out data connection time which lags behind a network in speed test when that network gave a speed of 130Kbps for that moment the test is conducted and again drop to 30Kbps ?
Then is that the fault with the operator or testing process?

I worked for some time to bring a resolution for such tests and finally came up with an excellent idea!

This is a technical test and an easy way to conclude the
    1)Network's speed
2)Network's response with the device(Networks incoming and outgoing data)

In this test i took My N900 and played the live internet radio using different network's INTERNET connections(Those networks which are EDGE enabled ie, 2.5 in the area i tested) for about 2Min App to note the continuity!
I recorded the streamed Audio for every session with the help of software installed on my device N900 (RECORDER) and just reconstructed it into a wave form so that the gaps or the buffering time is clearly visible in the form of gaps between the waves with the help of Audacity(A free audio editing software for windows).
Then by seeing the test results even a small kid can conclude which is the best Responsive/speed network.

The test is conducted only for
4)BSNL(cellone)(2.5G EDGE only not on 3G)
All the other remaining operators are left without the test conducted on them because they are not Edge enabled in the area i took this test. Will try to perform the tests on the remaining operators soon.

    Screenshot of player

In Tata DoCoMo's test Result we can clearly see that in the 2.15Min test time there is no gap or any buffering time required to stream the audio.
    It's picture perfect!

Idea network disconnected many times during the test and the audio streaming is not upto the mark.
To be fair and truth ,It's so uncomfortable that i am posting the test result of three sessions of  tested wave forms.

    screenshot of player

It's okay while performing with this operator! Not too good or bad when compared!

    screenshot of player

4)BSNL(cellone)(2.5G EDGE only not on 3G)
As every body know Bsnl started it's 3G services , this test is conducted using an ordinary 2.5G Edge enabled SIM card only.(3G is not activated on the number from which test is performed)

BSNL gave same result as of TataDoCoMo, except a slight 2second buffering time which can be negotiated.
The time is shown in the marking above, all the other portion of the waveform remains perfect!

    Screenshot of player

The Tests performed clearly show that
1)TATADOCOMO wins the test followed by
2)BSNL(Judged including the 2 sec buffering time)

Now it's time for you people to Judge which is the best!
NOTE:The Test is performed on a high end device like N900 and we cann't promise the same results when done with any other device or same.As per my knowledge the tests performed are true and accurate to 90% as this is not a per second test as of Mobilespeedtest.com  but a continuous 2min test depending upon the activity and response of the network.

The test is conducted at Vijayawada,Andhra Pradesh.
